Biography

John was born in Illinois in 1838. His father was William T Hanks Jr and his mother was Mary "Polly" Quinn, both from Kentucky. In 1850 both of his parents were deceased and John was living with the Packard family in Macon, Illinois. He married Sarah E Boswell on 11/18/1857 in Macon. He was a veteran of the US Civil War and fought for the Union side. He enlisted in Illinois on 6/15/1861 as a wagoner, Co A, 21st infantry he and mustered out on 7/5/1864. In 1890 he was living in Santa Rosa, CA. He died 4/30/1894 and is buried with family members in the Santa Rosa Rural Cemetery (Plot Fulkerson 48).
