Daughters of the American Revolution
John Hanna is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A051185.

John Hanna was born in 1752 in Derry, County Galway, Ireland, the son of Scotch-Irish Presbyterian parents. The Hanna family has been traced back to 1296 when Patrick Hannay built and occupied a castle in Scotland, known as Castle Sorby (Sorbie), about 5 miles south of the present town of Wigtown. At the age of 18 (about 1770) young John Hanna immigrated to the American Colonies.

John Hanna served in the American Revolutionary Army (before 1783) and also furnished supplies for the Revolutionary Army, transporting goods from western Pennsylvania by horse pack train over the mountains to eastern Pennsylvania.

The DAR credits John Hanna with serving with the rank of a private with 1) CAPT JOHN HINKSON, 1ST BATT, WESTMORELAND CO MILITIA, PA. [1]

Around 1789 he married Elizabeth Miller and they settled at Bethany, Huntingdon Township, in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, where their eight children were born.

When John Hanna died, among his possessions was found a small trunk filled with Continental notes, and drafts signed by the Quarter-master, all uncashed.

He and his wife Elizabeth are both buried in the Sewickly Presbyterian Church Cemetery at Yukon, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.
