Notice that marriage license in source list spelling of his name as Cockran, not Cockrum. Also, census record list spelling as Cockran. On 1850 census, John was 25, Caroline 21, John 3, and Mary 1.
Research Note
In the 1866 census for St Clair, AL there is a Caroline Cockram listed with 8 members in the household but there is not a male listed that would be the age of her husband, John.
In 1830 census there is a John C. Hanna listed and what appears to be a wife. Both are between the ages of 20-29. This could be Caroline's parents and her mother may have been pregnant with her at the time of the census.
