He was 10 years old when he came to Australia with his family on the Carnatic.[3] [4] Arriving in Rockhampton the Queensland Colony on the 5th of February, 1879.

James married Hannah Jones on 13 January 1924 in Queensland [5]

James passed away in hospital. He was 78 years old.[6][7]
