Prince Adolphus Frederick, Duke of Cambridge, KG, GCB, GCMG, GCH, PC was b. 24 Feb 1774 at Buckingham Palace, the 10th child and 7th son of King George III and Charlotte of Mecklenberg-Strelitz. He was appointed a Knight of the Garter 2 June 1786, and created Duke of Cambridge, Earl of Tipperary, and Baron of Culloden on 27 Nov 1801. He was appointed Knight Grand Gross of the Bath 2 Jan 1815, Knight Grand Gross of St Michael and St George 20 Jun 1825, Privy Counsellor 1802, and Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Guelphic Order 12 Aug 1815.
He m. 7 May 1818 at Cassel, Prussia (again 1 Jun 1818 at Kew Palace) his second cousin Augusta Wilhelmina Louisa of Hesse-Cassel (25 Jul 1797-6 Apr 1889), da. of Frederick III, Landgrave of Hesse-Cassel and Caroline Polyxena, da. of Prince Charles William of Nassau-Usingen.
