Note: By the will of his brother James, proven the 26th day of November, 1717, he obtained 200 acres of land in the township of Birmingham. He became a resident of Wilmington, Delaware, as early as 1731 or 1732, and perhaps died there.
The first borough election for Wilmington was held September 8th, 1740, and annually thereafter.
Robert Hannum was Chief Burgess for the year 1744, William Shipley and Joseph Way preceding him. He was also Assistant Burgess for the years 1740, '45, '46, '47 and again for 1752 and 1757.
It is unconfirmed that Robert was first married to Hannah _______. He assigned all his children of whom is on record to his wife Mary.
The oldest Bible examined was from Hopkins Hannum, of Augusta Township, Carroll Co., Ohio. "Printed for Richard Ware, at the Bible House, London, MDCCXXII;" and again it is said, "Printed by John Basket 1723." When the first binding gave way, the book was sent back to England to be rebound, which may account for the discrepancy in dates and names of printers. It came to Hopkins Hannum from his great-grandfather, James Hannum, the son of Robert and Mary, and was no doubt at one time their family bible. It contains the records of the deaths of Robert and Mary, and the dates of the births of some of their children, a considerable portion of the page containing the records being torn off. The names of the first four children do not appear therein, but are found in deed and other instruments of writing recorded at Wilmington and elsewhere.
