Born Charlotte Augusta, the only child of the loveless marriage between the Prince of Wales (later George IV) and Caroline of Brunswick.
She married Leopold George Christian Frederick of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfield on 2 May, 1816, at Carlton House. He was the youngest child of Francis, Duke of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld and Augusta of Reuss-Ebersdorf.
After two miscarriages she died in childbirth. Charlotte and her son were buried at St. George's Chapel, Windsor. Her elaborate carved memorial is situated in a side chapel toward the back of the nave.
