Frederic Henry Hans was born 10 July 1822, in Oldenburg, Hannover, Lower Saxony, Germany. He married Sarah Ann Waldron 17 September 1860, in Independence, Buchanan, Iowa. He passed away 2 July 1889 in Crawford, Dawes, Nebraska.[1][2]
Frederick is believed to have arrived in New York City about 1840.
"He was a Lutheran Minister when he came from Germany. I do not know just what theological training was in Germany at that time. But I do know that whatever it was, Father was fitted for ministry of the day and he had a fine education and a good German Library, which was burned in our home in Iowa."-- by his daughter, Jennie (Sarah Jane Hans) Clark.
He first married Louisa Lintlaw in 1846. They had four children; Louis, Sophia, Mary and Henry. Louisa died in September, 1858 in Bremer, Iowa.
He then married Sarah Ann Waldron on September 17, 1860, in Independence, IA. They had eight children; Fred, Rose, Sarah, George, William, John, Eldora, and Edith.
Frederick enlisted on 21 Feb 1863 to fight in the Civil War at Chicago by Capt Pomroy for a term of three years. He was transferred to Company B of 12th IL Cavalry. At the time of his enlistment he was 38 years old, a farmer, 5 feet 8 inches tall with blue eyes and sandy hair. He was discharged at St Louis, MO on Sept 1, 1865.
He died at Fort Robinson, Nebraska.
