Biography

George was born in 1819. He is the son of Moses Hanscom and Hannah Averill. ^[1]

According to North America, Family Histories, George was born in July, whereas, FindAGrave reports a Feb birth, but they agree on the 9th of the month. However, Maine Veterans Cemetery Records reports that his Date of Birth was 14 Feb 1819. For now, I will leave the birth date as 9 Feb 1819, but this needs to be corroborated, one way or another.^[2]

Both sources agree he married Hannah E. (Ames) (1854), and that they had three children.

George served in the US Army during the Civil War, enlisting on 10 Sep 1862 in Augusta and being discharged 31 Aug 1863. He was a Private in Co. H, 28th Maine, Vol. Infantry.

He died on 21 Apr 1891 in Machiasport, Washington, Maine.^[2][3]
