Loring Lewis Hanscom was born September 19, 1839, in Maine. His parents were Luther Pope and Mary Ann (Bedell) Hanscom.
He married Sarah Jane Bridgham on January 1, 1861. She was born in Maine (probably Township 14) on January 25, 1838.
Loring enlisted as a private on August 9, 1862, in Company F, First Cavalry Regiment of Maine. He received a disability discharge on December, 19, 1862.
In 1870, Loring Hanscomb [sic] lived in Camden, Maine with his wife Sarah and four children. He was a Methodist Clergyman.
By 1880, they had moved to Houlton, Maine with their six children (three had died) where he was a clergyman.
Sarah (Bridgham) Hanscom died on August 29, 1880, at the age of 42.
Loring L. Hanscom, of Orono, Maine, is listed in "List of Pensioners on the Roll, January 1, 1883, Vols. 1-5." He received a $6.00 pension, starting on July 20, 1881, for "homorr. & results." On December 10, 1904, his widow, Annie H. Hanscom, filed for a widow’s Civil War Pension.
After Sarah’s death Loring married Annie Hall of Richmond, New Brunswick, Canada about 1881 and had three more children. They now lived in Rockland, Maine with their three children. He was still a clergyman. Loring Hanscom died on September 19, 1904.
