Biography

Hannah Hanscom was born about 1814.[1][2]

1 Sep 1832 Hannah Hascom and Gilman Ham published their intentions to marry in North Berwick, Maine.[3]

The 1840 census,[4] shows Hannah's husband Gilman Ham living in a home with 2 white males under the age of 5; 1 white male age 5 - 9; 1 white male age 30 -39, who would be Gilman; 1 white female under the age of 5; and 1 white female age 20 -29 who would be Hannah. Following Gilman on the census is Betsey Hascom listed as age 40-49 presumably Hannah's mother. The other neighbors match up with the 1950 census.

The 1850 census, enumerated on 5 Aug 1850,[5] shows Gilman Ham, carpenter, aged 44, living in North Berwick, with Hannah, aged 35, and seven of their children, as well as Hannah's mother Betsey Hanscom, age 60. The following children were found for this couple:

  1. William Ham (1833-1901)
  2. Phebe Jane, born about 1835[5]
  3. John B Ham (1838-1925)
  4. Hollis P, born about 1840. Died 19 Aug 1842 at one year and 11 months. (First child with this name. See below.)[6]
  5. Hannah, born about 1842[5]
  6. Abba (or Abby) F, born about 1844[5][7]

  8. Hollis G, born about 1847 (Second child with this name.)[5]
  9. Mary Ann, born about 1849[5]
  10. Ellen M, born about 1852[7]
  11. Clara M, born about about 1855[7]

Hannah passed away on 11 Dec 1856 at 42 years and 16 days, and was buried in the Ham plot in North Berwick, York, Maine. According to the Nathan Hale Cemetery Collection, Hannah, died 11 Dec 1850, aged 42.0.16.[2] However, the FindAGrave Memorial for Hannah reveals a tombstone clearly marked with 1856 as the year of her death.[1]
