Richard was born in about 1728[1] In Lythe, Yorkshire, the son of Richard Hansell (accessed 1 Jul 2021) [2]and Margaret Hill.
Richard may have been lost at sea on the coal ship ‘Violet of Whitby’ in about 1758. This requires further investigation starting with researching Whitby Ship Musters reportedly held at Whitby Museum in original with copies at Yorkshire County Record Office in Northallerton. A ship called the Violet did perish in 1758 with all 400 on board [3]
