Aunty Min attended the Re-union held at Heathcote in November, 2001 and again at Beresfield on 6th April, 2003. She was bright and well but appeared to be getting frail. She also enjoyed meeting a lot of the THOMPSON family who were in attendance in numbers. Waller Family Newsletter reported in August 2005 that Minnie WALKER had come home from hospital and is doing much better. She is nowhere near as mobile as she was before she went into hospital. She had visits from her daughters and their husbands as well as some of their children. Waller Family Newsletter reported in April, 2007 that Peter Chapman emailed some news to let everyone know that for the time being Grandma has moved to a nursing home at Hamilton, Newcastle where Aunty Nancy works. Peter CHAPMAN rang to say that Grandma had a fall and had broken her hip, she was in John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle. That was on Friday, 16th May at about 5 p.m. He sent and email on Monday 19th May to say that Grandma had passed away, peacefully at 1.10 a.m. that morning. He sent another email later on 20th May 2008 to say that her funeral had been arranged for Thursday, 22nd May at 11.00 a.m. at the Gospel Hall, 29 Wynter Street, Taree. Barbara CHAPMAN handed me her copy of the Eulogy and life story of Minnie Melva WALKER, (nee HANSEN) at the Family Re-Union at Wyee in 2008. It described in detail some of the last days of her life and where the family later decided to celebrate her planned birthday party. Minnie was in Hamilton Nursing Home and turned 90 on Tuesday 13th May 2008. The family were planning to celebrate her birthday on the following Saturday, the 17th. On Thursday Minnie had a fall and was put into bed and given some tablets for pain. She deteriorated over night and was transferred to John Hunter Hospital. During those hours she is believed to have suffered a stroke and was visited by family members for some time. On Saturday the family, all 28 of them, decided to carry on with the birthday party, having lunch at Raymond Terrace. Sunday arrived and the family were told that Minnie was not going to make it. She had fluid on the lungs and at 1.10 p.m. she slipped peacefully away with her son Phillip on her bedside. The Coroner's report said that Minnie had died from Bronchial Pneumonia. Becker Family Funerals in Taree conducted the funeral at the Taree Gospel Hall on Thursday 22nd May at 11 a.m. Len WALKER and Chris HENNING spoke at the hall while Bob GOATLEY spoke at the graveside and John COCHRANE closed in prayer.
