Martin married Christina Jaspersdtr Hval on the 15th of January 1905 in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. They had seven children together.
Martin passed away in 1937 at the age of eighty-seven.

The first School was Located on in land, the corr of the SE 34-12-21 W2. The School was Built in 1927. The local school district was named the Hanson School District #1550 after Martin Hanson. The school was closed in 1942 but the Board continued to hold meetings there for several years.
Martin & Christina along with their daughters Edna and Lenora are buried at the Bethesd Lutheran Cemetery (Noorwegian) Located eight miles south and one mile west of Wilcox.
