No birth record for Jemima Hanson has been found. Her birth is an estimate based on her date of marriage. She is proved to be the daughter of Jonathan Hanson and his wife from wills and land records. Her marriage to Josiah Pennington on 24 FEB 1771 is recorded among the records of St. Paul's Episcopal church.^[1]

An obituary for Jemima appeared in the Telegraphe & Daily Advertiser of Baltimore on 18 APR 1801. It read as follows:

"Thursday night departed this transitory life, Mrs. Jemima Pennington, wife of Josiah Pennington. The relations, friends and neighbors of the deceased are respectfully invited to attend her funeral this afternoon at three o'clock, at her late dwelling near Dr. Stevenson's. ^[2]
