Emigrated aboard the Arthur from Germany through Havana, arriving in New Orleans on May 19, 1858.

Enlisted in Company K (Lone Star Rifles), 1st Regiment, Texas Volunteers. Wounded in both legs and the arm at Antietam Battle, Sharpsburg, Maryland on Sept. 17, 1862.

Married Lydia S. Kelley on Oct. 10, 1866 in Harris Co., Texas.

Father of Charles Martin Hanson, John Henry Hanson, Nelson Burton Hanson, Adalaide "Addie" (Hanson) Buckingham, and Mary Elizabeth (Hanson) Walker.
