Ralph was born before his documented baptism on 3 April 1814 and was a son of Ephraim Hanson and Alida Schenck.
Research Note:
I believe that the second born child, Ralph Schenck Hanson [born 1814-New York] , of Ephraim Nicholas Hanson sr. [born 1784-New York_died 1837-Michigan] and Alida Almira (Schenck) Hanson [born 1790-New York_died 1882-Michigan], died sometime after his baptism in 1814 and before the birth of his brother, Ralph Hanson [born 1824-New York_died 1875-Missouri] . I also believe that the gravestone for Ralph Schanck Hanson deplicted in the Find A Grave Memorial no. 138350867, in Cherry Valley Cemetery, Cherry Valley, Otsego County, New York is his, showing his parentage as Ephraim & Alida. I contend that he was born two to three months before his baptism on 3 April 1814 and that he died as a child before his brother, Ralph, was born and baptized on 6 June 1824. I offer for discussion the following logical, but unverified reasons:
* Parents do not normally give the same first name to children unless the first child has past.
* Picture of the gravestone does not show any dates.
* Gravestone notations of "Son of {parentage}" normally indicate an infant, child or youthful death, as included in this case.
* Ralph Schenck Hanson full name would have had a low probability of being a common or duplicated name in the era and location of Cherry Valley, New York.
