Communication Preferences: I am interested in communicating private message with cousins and anyone else with an interest in genealogy. Here is my family tree. Ancestors ancestors
Genealogy and family historian for almost 30 years I research my family, friends, associates, neighbors and am happy to help anyone. I have a lot of experience with research in Minnesota, Denmark, Norway, Germany, Luxembourg and the Czech Republic as well as some in Ukraine, Netherlands, and a bit in many other places and all over the United States. With a Ph.D. in Biochemistry I'm also very excited to learn and understand more with DNA genealogy and have become very involved with trying to map my chromosomes. My favorite thing to do is cross the pond to the extent I research anyone in my FAN club (friends associates and neighbors) if I think I can find them in their place of origin.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships by comparing test results with Cassandra or other carriers of her ancestors' mitochondrial DNA. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share DNA with Cassandra:

Thank you for signing the Honor Code and adding your DNA Test information to your profile on WikiTree, Cassandra.

Your information will be propagated to the profiles of your parents and your ancestors within about 24 hours of being added. It will also propagate to the profiles of the descendants of your ancestors, so they may see your information under the heading "DNA Connections" just as you can see theirs.

Getting started with DNA outlines how to proceed to use your DNA test information on WikiTree and DNA is a link to a collection of links about WikiTree's many features involving DNA.

The DNA Connections list on your profile will provide a visual way for you to find potential relatives on WikiTree who have also added their DNA test information. Using DNA tools at sites like GEDMatch.com, if you find a relative that matches your DNA sufficiently and you have genealogical sources for the intermediate relationships, you can mark the specific parental relationships back to the most recent ancestor that you both share as "confirmed with DNA." For details, guidance, and examples of how to properly document DNA confirmations, see DNA confirmation.

To find other potential relatives, continue adding sourced profiles for other lines until you can connect on all branches. The more branches you are able to add the greater the likelihood of finding potential cousins to match with. The process of identifying which branch elements of DNA relate to will better enable you to find matches that relate to the particular branches you are researching.

Have fun!

Thank you for the greetings. I'm having trouble getting started. My ged file was too large so I broke it up which is fine but then I was trying to add myself, and my living parents (to link into my ged files when they are ready). It will not let me add my living parents. It keeps wanting a death date (turns pink even though I tell it "blank because living". Is there a trick?

Hi Cassandra,

Since this a comment instead of a reply to the comment Peggy left, she didn't get your message. I'm happy to help though.

It looks like you were successful in getting your mother added. Did you still need assistance?

Click on the 'reply' link under this comment, and I'll be notified of it.

Thank you I just added a fake date, uploaded, and then deleted it. It worked.

Hi Peggy if you are here today can you help me with something? After uploading my .ged file I did all the comparisons. It says I have three left and can't upload anyone until I observe these. But there are not any I can find. I have been through it a dozen times. I already "refresh"ed it and before it only had one suggested matches to consider. After refreshing there were more I compared but now three I cannot find.

A second question? Is there a way to remove a .ged file? I added one that I think is going to be way too big. This is actually not very easy to do and I'd like to remove it and upload it in smaller portions.

Hi

One of our mentors created a tutorial for the GEDCOMpare process that others found very helpful. I hope that you will too.
