During the American Revolution, he enlisted in Halifax County, Virginia in 1776 and served six months as a Private in Captain James Turner's company, Colonel Lewis' Virginia regiment. He enlisted 26 Apr 1781 and served three months as a Private in Captain James Turner's company under Major Ross of the Virginia troops. He was at the Siege of Ninety Six. A pension was awarded for his service.[3][1]
