Research Notes

Robert and his wife Jane cannot both be children of Joh Herbison of Cabragh. He is not called “son” on the memorial (which you would expect if John were his father), but then again, neither is Jane called their daughter, although Robert predecessors her. Also, his wife Jane leaves her own will. She has her own money. Not certain, but it seems more likely that Jane is their daughter. They are both called “nephew” and “niece” in Uncle Adam’s will, so this doesn’t help. They could be first cousins. Another possibility is that Jane isn’t a Herbison at all, in which case John is his father rather than hers.
