Biography

Robert was born in 1864. He is the son of Matthew Harbison and Sarah Hanna. He married Maggie Crawford, of Cullybackey, Craigs, daughter of William James Crawford, farmer, at Ballymena Registrar’s Office on 23 Dec 1897.

Robert married Martha when he was 36 years of age and she was 26. They farmed in an area10 km's north of the town of Ballymena near the Crankill Road. At age 49, Robert Harbison and his wife and family of 10 children came over to Canada to work at farming for J.R. Dargravel. They left Ballymena Ireland on February 2, 1924. The trip on the S S Montrose took 8 days and they landed at Saint John New Brunswick on February 10th. From there the family of 9 children between the ages of 20 and 2 made their way to Ontario.

The farm they headed to was on Lot 5, Concession 7, in South Crosby township in an area known as California on the Whitefish Lake Road, near Jones Falls, Ontario, Canada.

After a few years there they moved to Lot 18, Concession 11, in the Leeds township, (now Leeds & the Thousand Islands) at 122 Turk Rock Road, off the Briar Hill Road west of Morton, Ontario.(Information from family records and 1935 voters registration)
