Biography

Joseph was born about 1770. Joseph Hardee ...

Joseph Hardee and his wife Sarah Bright settled on a corner of the old plantation. His son Bright Hardee built a home within a stone's throw of the old settlement, that is today known in Kinston as the "Parrott Hardee Home Place". It stands now near the lands of the Caswell Training School, while the home site of his mother, Sarah Croom is a part of the training school lands. The unmarked headstone of their graves still stands in the family cemetery beside the grave of their youngest son Bright Hardee. The cemetery lies on a knoll almost directly across the road and in front of the house. Joseph Hardee and his wife were thrifty and accumulated considerable holdings in land. He took over from his mother a little iron box, which contained a copy of his mother's will. This box has come on down to Mrs. J.H .Alexander in Kinston, North Carolina and contains deeds that show that he bought out the shares of his mother's estate with the exception of the home place that appears to have gone into the possession of his brother, Major Hardee. It was from these deeds that the names of the husbands of the unmarried daughters of Sarah Croom Hardee as mentioned in her will were obtained. They had two sons, Major Hardee and Bright Hardee. These sons married sisters, who were daughters of Parrott Mewborn and his wife Lydia Hardee.

Due to the changes in maps before and after the Revolutionary War here is a map of the eastern United States in 1785 notice the different in spelling of the few states. http://www.usgwarchives.net/maps/georgia/statemap/1785.jpg
