I believe that Mary Jane Harden was the first wife of my GG grandfather, Larkin Griffith. My Great grandfather, William Uriah Griffith, was born in 1857, so I assume that Larkin and Mary Jane were married about 1856. MJ does not appear with the family in the 1860 Bradley County, Tennessee census, but neither does William Uriah. Larkin served in the Civil War and married Margaret Davidson in 1865. William Uriah was not living with his father's family in 1870, but with his grandfather, William Leander Griffith.

I assume that Mary Jane died around the time of William Uriah's birth, but can find no proof of the marriage to Larkin or of her death.

Mary Jane is listed as the mother of my great grandfather, William Uriah Griffith, on his death certificate, but I have no information about her birth, family or death. Larkin Griffith went to the Civil War in 1816, returned to Bradley County, TN, and married Margaret Davidson in 1865. Mary Jane is not with the family in 1860. Did she die in childbirth?
