Isaac joined the Union troops from Brown County Indiana after the Confederate Army began raiding southern Indiana. He either died on the Ohio when a barge was bombed--or in Louisville at the army hospital. His wife was pregnant at the time of Isaac's death. No one knows where he was from originally, or who his parents were. A family story recounts that Isaac and his brother came from somewhere in Ohio and came to Brown County, IN in the early 1860's. Isaac's brothers returned to Ohio, but Isaac stayed behind with his young wife and son. There may be some connection to the Melungeons--as Harden is a known Melungeon name. (they are a group of folks who descend from African slaves--and that shows up in our DNA).
