Biography

Jonathan Harden, son of John Harden and Eunice (Benson) Harden, was born in Bridgewater, Plymouth County, Massachusetts on April 22, 1771.^[1][2]

Jonathan married Lucy Faunce.^[2] They resided in Worthington and Hingham, Massachusetts and had the following eight children:^[2]

1. Harriet, b. at Worthington on February 17, 1795, d. in Hingham unmarried on January 27, 1859
2. Halah, b. October 1, 1796
3. Hartey, b. August 8, 1798, m. Ephraim Harden on October 23, 1823
4. Hosea, b. January 21, 1801
5. Helah, b. February 15, 1803, d. April 12, 1804
6. Harilah, b. February 25, 1804, d. later in 1804
7. Eunice Benson, b. August 17, 1805, m. Charles B. Reed
8. Deborah, b. December 20, 1808, d. in Hingham on January 9, 1834

Jonathan Harden died on July 18, 1830 at the age of 59.^[2][3] He was buried in Jennings Hill Cemetery. His gravestone reads:

In memory of Jonathan Harden, who died July 18, 1830, æt. 59.

Affection's sigh nor filial love,

Can stay death's sure unerring dart;

Jehovah calls and mortals prove

That dearest friends on earth must part.^[3]
