Biography

Hardidge appears to be the correct LNAB because of the inscription on Elizabeth Hardidge Ashton's tombstone.

Death

25 FEB 1722[1]
From a tomb on "Booth's" plantation, at the mouth of Nominy Creek.
Beneath this Stone is Laid the Body of Elizabeth, the Wife of Col. Henry Ashton, and Daughter of Capt. William Hardidge, by Frances, his Wife, who for Piety to God, Faithfulness, Love and Obedience to her Husband, tenderness to her Children, Carefulness of her family, Charity to the Poor, was Equalled by Few, Excelled by none. She had by her said Husband four Children, Frances, Elizabeth, Anne and Grace. The two Latter only Survived her. After finishing her most Neighborly and Christian life, with joy She Resigned her Soul to God in Faith on Monday, the 25th of February, in the Year of our Lord 1722 and in the 45th Year of her Age, whose Death was Lamented by all who Knew her.[2]

Elizabeth Hardidge married Captain Henry Ashton in Virginia on an unknown date.[1] She was born about 1678 and died on 25 Feb 1722. [3][1] She was buried in the Nomini Plantation Cemetery, Westmoreland County, Virginia.

Elizabeth Ashton, dau of Capt William Hardidge, d. 2/25/1722:3, in her 43rd yr (from her tombstone) [4]

Research Note

There is a discrepancy between the archived transcription of the headstone and the memorial in Find A Grave. The transcription indicates she died in her 45th year, and the Find A Grave Memorial indicates that she died in her 43rd year. Neither source has a photo of the headstone.

Hardwick-24 and Hardidge-2 appear to represent the same person because: Same date of death, parents, and spouse. The difference in the date of birth seems to be a mathematical issue.
