Lewis was born in 1811. He is the son of William Hardin and Rhoda Wilhoit.

Lewis married Margaret Clore August 20, 1841.[1][2][3] They lived in Oldham County, Kentucky.[4][5] Lewis owned several slaves there.[6][7]

Lewis married Louisa. They lived in Oldham County.[8] He continued to live in Oldham County as a widower.[9]
