Biography

He married Eleanor Sherrill in 1799 [1]. He passed away in 1840 and is buried on the property that was his farm in Battletown, Meade, Kentucky [2].

Research Notes

"Very early in the history of Meade County Little Bend was settled by William Parr at Wolf Creek, Robert Hardin, Warren Hardin, Richard Willett and Hiram Boone."

"Robert Hardin and Eleanor Sherrill were married in Washington County, Kentucky, in 1799. Soon after this they came to Meade County. Their graves are in Little Bend. To the left of the inscription on the tombstone of Robert Hardin is a hunter, seated upon a log, with a gun in his hand and by his side a dog, suggestive of the pioneer days. Below are the exact inscriptions:

Robert Hardin Born in Penn., May 6, 1776 Married Elenor Sherrill 1799 In Washington County, Ky. Departed this life March 10, 1840 In Meade County, Ky. Aged 63 years, 10 months, 5 days.

Elenor Wife of Robert Hardin Born in North Carolina May 23, 1780. Departed this life Nov. 5, 1869 Aged 88 years, 5 months, 12 days."[3]

Robert Hardin (son of John (Jack,Sr.) Hardin and Mary (Molly) Harding) was born May 06, 1776 in Pennsylvania, and died March 10, 1840 in Meade County, KY. He married Elenor Sherrill on February 05, 1799 in Washington County, KY, daughter of Elisha Sherrill and Elizabeth.

Notes for Robert Hardin: Robert was born in an Indian Camp in Pennsylvania. He and Elanor are buried in Little Bend Cemetery in Meade County, Kentucky.

Robert Hardin had a sister born 29 October 1780, named Mary, while her mother Mary Harding Hardin was being held by the indians, 7 months and 9 days after Mary and son Robert age 4 were captured by the Indians. This birth happened at a camp in the woods near the Sandusky River, Ohio. (per "History of the Hardin Family in the Early Settling of Kentucky" by Jack Hardin, Jr.) (pg 49)
