Biography

Amelia Harding was baptised on 26 November 1807, daughter of Thomas Harding and Esther Chantery. (NB: It appears that her surname should have been documented as Harden, see Research Notes below). [1] [2]

She was baptised again in 1815 in St John the Baptist, Deritend, when her family was living in Bordesley, Warwickshire. Her record acknowledged she had been baptised privately on 25 Sep 1807. Father Thomas was a horn button maker. Her siblings Martha, Lydia and Sarah were baptised at the same time. [3]

She married John Bartlam on 28 Dec 1829 in St Martin's Birmingham. [4]

She came to Australia in November 1853 on the ship "Mobile", along with the 13 year old Mary Ann Bartlam. [5]

She died in Darraweit, Victoria in 1887. [6] Her gravestone and burial details can be seen here.

Research Notes

Amelia's baptism records note her surname as 'Harding', however her father's surname was clearly 'Harden', and she was baptised as 'Harden' later in 1815. However she handed down the name of 'Harding' to her son. Also note that her mother's maiden name was documented as Chantry on her mother's wedding records.
