I'm confident that Robert's mother was Lavinia, as you suggest. The 1871 census states he was born in Soham, Cambs, but the 1881 entry states Mildenhall, Suffolk. From the distance of Lincolnshire, I imagine Soham, Mildenhall and Eriswell are all close by. There are no other candidates with this name, and with James as their father's name., in this area in either 1841 or 1851 and he was visiting a Leonard family in 1851.
