Biography

John was born in 1749 to Abraham Harding Sr (abt.1720-1806) and Anna (Dolson) Harding (abt.1720-abt.1806).

He married Rhoda King.[1]

They had 11 children.

Rhoda died in 1788, soon after Lemuel was born.

He married Lydia Tripp.

John died on 22 May 1813 and was buried in Mamakating Park, Sullivan, New York, United States.[2]

Research Notes

Some records say he married Lydia in 1783. If that were the case, the later 3 children could be hers. But this is not consistent with the reported 1788 death of Rhoda.

The following items are claimed to be true on FindAGrave but need research and sources:

  • John Harding was a Sergeant in Captain Abraham Cuddebeck's Company of the New York Militia, commanded by Colonel James McClaughry during the Revolutionary War.
    • payroll record for this New York militia has been found but not a list of soldiers[3]
  • John and his wife Rhoda were two of the original members of the Old School Baptist Church in 1785.
    • This is probably in a Rutenberg book
