John Jesse Harding, born on March 17, 1861, in Missouri, was the fifth child among eight siblings, the son of Samuel A Harding and Elizabeth Driskill. Samuel A Harding and Elizabeth Driskill.[1][2] In his early years, he faced the sorrow of losing two older siblings before reaching the age of seven.
In 1870,at the age of 9, John resided with his parents and five siblings in Washington Township, Johnson, Missouri. His father worked as a farmer, and his mother managed the household. John and his two elder siblings were students at the time.[3]
Tragically, when he was 15, another sibling passed away during childbirth.
By 1880, the Harding family had relocated to Montserrat, Johnson, Missouri. Samuel A Harding continued his occupation as a farmer. At 18 years old, John contributed as a laborer and was the eldest among four siblings living at home. Interestingly, John's sister, Martha Ann Harding, remained with the family despite being married, and his two younger brothers attended school, with Henry helping on the farm.[4]
Marriage and Family
At the ages of 21 and 16, John and Mary Emma Thomas embarked on their journey together, exchanging vows on December 19, 1882, in Warrensburg, Johnson.[5]
By the turn of the century in 1900, John and Mary found themselves residing in Montserrat, Johnson, Missouri, where they owned a farm. Their eldest son, who once toiled as a day laborer, unfortunately, experienced a three-month spell of unemployment. Similarly, their youngest son, also engaged in day labor, faced a challenging four-month hiatus from work. [6]
A decade later, in 1910, the couple continued to nurture their farm. However, only their son Ralph remained under their roof. Ralph had ventured into the world of mining but found himself temporarily without employment at that time. [7]

[2] marked the end of his earthly journey. He was laid to rest in the serene grounds of Ellis Cemetery, Johnson County, Missouri.[1][8]

John's obituary mentions that he left behind "several children," despite having only two sons with his wife. Additionally, it acknowledges only one living brother, although he still had several surviving siblings.[8]
