Joseph and Amelia were married in the old wooden church of St Mary's in Parnell, which was demolished a few years later... "The Anglican Cathedral, which stands at the top of the hill, has become an iconic feature of Parnell. It replaced the old wooden St Mary's, demolished in 1888, having served the community for 28 years" (source below)
His sons, Joseph and Charles, added the "e" to the end of their surname, which continued on with their descendants (as informed by Dianne Smith, Joseph's grand-daughter).
Joseph's ashes were scattered at Waikumete Cemetery, Auckland, New Zealand.
