Biography

He married his first wife Mary Smith Baker (1835 - 1883) on 26/4/1862 in Bristol Gloucestershire. He had 11 children from his first marriage.

He arrived in Victoria in 1885 to become manager of Castlemaine Brewery.

He then moved on to take over the management of Lindsay & Co's two breweries in Bourke and Orange in NSW.

His sons Thomas James and Philip Bower took over management at these two breweries and he arrived in Western Australia in 1888 to take on management of the Swan Brewery. He was very successful in building the business and retired from Swan Brewery in 1914. He also owned farm at Waroona - Oakford Estate and Yalup Brook - Spington. He was also President of the Royal Agricultural Society. He died at his home at 37 Mount St Perth.
