Thomas 'Tom' Hardwick was born on 2nd November 1879 in Mackay, Queensland (Australia). He was the second son of George Hardwick and Mary Pyert. [1]
On 1st January 1901, Tom married Selina Pidgeon in Queensland. [2] They had three sons and six daughters:
Widowered for three years, Tom passed away, aged 79 years, on 21st February 1959 in Brisbane, Queensland. [3] He was survived by two sons and four daughters.
Lived through the depression of the 1890s and witnessed the federation of the six British Colonies into the Commonwealth of Australia in 1901. Saw the effects of the dreadful carnage of two world wars, 1914-18 and 1939-45, and then the Korean War; the first of the anti-communist wars. Was a subject of six monarchs, Queen Victoria, Kings Edward VII, George V, Edward VIII and George VI, and Queen Elizabeth II. The South Pole was reached and the tallest peak in the world, Mount Everest, scaled.
