John Hardy was born about 1510, or before, in Wetwang, East Riding, Yorkshire, England. He was a haberdasher by profession. He was an alderman in London. Specifically he was sheriff from 1527-1528; date elected 1524 May 12 and vice: Fenrother[1][2] He was sometime Lord Mayor of London.[3]

So far there has been no documented proof of his wife nor of his parents. His only documented son is Michael.[4]

He died Oct 1540; Will (PCC 14 Alenger) 7 Oct; proved 21 Oct 1540.[5]
