George was born in 1859, son of Joseph Hardy and Mary Clasper.

The death has occurred at the Ingham Infirmary, South Shields, of George Edward Hardy, age 57, of 37 Wellington Street, North Shields. Deceased, who was an engineman on board a patrol boat, was severely scalded all over the body by an explosion on board his vessel as she was proceeding up Shields Harbour
