Biography

"Wedding. Greber - Hardy. The wedding was solemnised in Bobin Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, 15th June, 1938, of Ivy Victoria Hardy (eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Hardy, of Brinawa) and Arthur Phillip Counsel Greber (youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Greber, of Hyndman) . Rev. W. Harrison, of Wingham, was the ofliciating clergyman. The parents of the bride and bridegroom, are Bulga pioneer settlers. The Church had been nicely decorated for the important occasion. The bride, who entered the Church on the arm of her father who subsequently gave her away, wore a gown of crepe satin, and veil, which was kindly loaned by Mrs. Bert Ritchie (cousin of the bridegroom). The bride carried a sheaf of arum lilies, jonquils and asparagus. Miss Nellie Hardy and Miss Lillian Greber were bridesmaids, and wore ankle length frocks of pink taffeta, and carried horseshoes made of roses, gerberas and asparagus. Bouquets were also carried by the mothers of the bride and bridegroom - the bouquets being made and presented by Mrs. J. J. Griffith, of Brinawa (an old friend of the bridal couple) . The wedding breakfast was partaken or at Mrs. Brown's residence (grandmother of the bride), who received the guests. About 50 guests attended the breakfast which was presided over by Mr. Len Carle - in the unavoidable absence of Rev. W. Harrison). After the toast of The King had been honored, the Chairman, in a very nicely worded speech, proposed the toast of the Bride and Bridegroom, which was responded to by the bridegroom. The bridegroom proposed the toast to the bridesmaids, the toasl being responded to by Mr. Victor Greber (the best man). The toast of the bride and bridegroom's parents was proposed by Mr. R. Baly, who told the gathering of the many hardships that had been endured in pioneering by Mr. and Mrs. Greber and Mr. and Mrs. Hardy. Mr. Greber and Mr. Hardy responded. The toast of the Chairman was proposed by Mr. George Greber, and the singing of 'For he's a jolly good fellow' brought the toast list to a close. The wedding cake was then cut by the bride. The cake was made by the bride's mother and was a work of art. It was decorated at Mr. C. E. MaIIyon 's Bakery, Wingham. The breakfast was served in fine style and was a credit to the ladies responsible. The bridegroom's present to the bride was a Coleman Benzine Iron, and to the bridesmaids gold souvenir brooches. The bride's gift to the bridegroom was a hand knitted scarf. The happy couple left for Swansea amid showers of confetti. The future home of Mr. and Mrs. Greber will be at Elands."
