Biography

Fanny was born on 20 June 1890 at 20 Granville Terrace, St. Nicholas, York, Yorkshire, the daughter of George William Hare, a brickmaker (journeyman), and Mary Furniss. The informant of her birth was her father George W. Hare, of the same address. ^[1]

In 1891 Fanny, aged 9 months, was living with her parents at a Brickyard Cottage, Thomas St, York. ^[2]

In 1901 the family was living at 25 Lawrence St, York. Fannie [sic] was incorrectly shown as aged 7. Her actual age was 10 years. ^[3]

In 1911 Fanny was working as a domestic nurse in the home of George Wilson Clarke and family at Fulford village [south of York]. She was aged 20. ^[4]

Fanny Hare married James Leeming in 1923 at York. ^[5]

This couple had one known child.

The family lived in the Township of Slaidburn, in the Forest of Bowland, Yorkshire.

In the 1924 to 1931 electoral rolls for Slaidburn James and Fanny were recorded living at Mount Pleasant. Then from 1932 to 1937 they were at Kirk Lea. And in the 1938-1940 rolls at Chapel Brow. ^[6]

The 1939 Register, taken on 29 September 1939, has been described as a snapshot of the civilian population of England and Wales just after the outbreak of the Second World War. The Register recorded each person's address, date of birth and occupation.
At that time James and Fanny were residing at Chapel Street, Staidburn, in the Rural District of Bowland, Yorkshire. James, born 26 June 1898, was aged 41. He was a filter attendant in the employ of the Public Water Supply. James was also a member of the A.R.P. [Air Raid Precautions] serving with Fylde Water Board. Fanny, born 20 June 1890, was aged 49. The record for their child remains closed at this time [2019]. ^[7]

The 1945, 1946 and 1947 electoral rolls recorded the family living at Livingstone House, Staidburn. Daughter Mary also appeared in the 1946 and 1947 rolls at the same address. ^[8]

Fanny Leeming died in 1948 aged 57 years. ^[9]

James and daughter Mary were still living at Livingstone House in the 1949 and 1950 rolls. However in the 1950 roll the address was amended to Livingstone House, 3 Chapel Street. ^[10]

James Leeming remarried to Doris Reynolds in 1952. ^[11]

This couple lived at 4 Church St, Slaidburn following their marriage. Mary remained at Livingstone House.

James Leeming died in 1986 aged 88 years. ^[12]

Doris Leeming died in 2005 aged 95 years. ^[14]
