Betty was the third of five children born to Benjamin Hartford and Temperance Bryant. She married John Cook in 1769 in Scarboro. In 1803 the Massachusetts Government recognized the Bingham Grant, and Mr. Black of Ellsworth was the agents. Settling families were given 100 acres. Captain John Cook got the 19th lot and the family removed to Sullivan Maine. John Cook was Lost at Seat, leaving his widow and children. The 1790 Federal Census shows her as head of household in Sullivan, Maine with 1 young male, probably Alexander, and several young females, probably Charity, Christianna, Susannah and Mary
