It would appear that John Draper Hargis was born in Charles County, Maryland, shortly after his parents had arrived from England, he being the first of six children. He married a woman also born in Virginia and had three children by her prior to her death in 1714. The last of these, JDH Jr., was born in Westmoreland County, where the family appears to have stayed for the better part of a century before moving on to Kentucky. in 1725 Hargis is recorded as having married a woman nearly thirty years his junior, Elizabeth Sublinel, in Hanover VA. He died and was buried in Westmoreland County five years later. (Stoddard Martin Jr, 11 v 20)
