Biography

The early years

Lionel Dennis Hargis was born the 4th of May 1844^[1] in Stewart Tennessee to Lionel Hargis and Mary Ann Martha Hollifield.

Family life

Dennis first married Mary E. Morris on 6 Jul 1865 in Stewart County, Tennessee. It is unknown what became of this marriage. The family history^[1] tells the story that "For some reason he wasn't happy with this marriage, so he went to Alexander County, Illinois to visit his uncle and aunt and while there he met and married Mary Adaline McDaniel ... she was the daughter of a Doctor McDaniel". Dennis married Miss Adaline McDaniel on 6 Sep 1868 in Alexander County, Illinois^[2]. The only child of Lional Dennis Hargis was born to this second marriage : Desmond Franklin Hargis was born in Oct 1869 in Illinois as can be seen in the 1870 census^[3].

Through the years

In the 1850 Census^[4], Dennis and his parents were in Stewart County, Tennessee and Lional Dennis was age 6.

In the 1860 census^[5], the family was still in District 4, Stewart County, Tennessee and Lional Dennis was age 15.

The 1870 census^[3] was taken in Hazelwood Precinct, Alexander County, Illinois during the brief period between the birth of Dennis and Adeline's son and the death of Dennis. Denis was age 26 at the time and son Desmond was age 9 months.

Death

Dennis died on 18 Sep 1870^[1], probably in Illinois. Place of burial is unknown.
