Biography
Samuel was born in 1841 in Missouri to Washington Green Hargis and Margaret Johnson. He served in the Civil War and afterward went into general merchandising business. He married at age 29 and passed away in 1900 at 59 years old.
His widow filed for a pension based on his service with Arkansas Infantry, Co A Hempstead Regiment. According to research, it wasn't a part of regular Confederacy regiments, but rather part of the Provisional Army of Arkansas.[1]
