George (Hargrave) Hargraves has French origins.

George Washington Hargraves, son of Guillaume Hargraves and Catherine Bonharme was born a Hargrave in Louisiana, but the Texas branch of the family became Hargraves after going west. He was born to Guillaume Hargraves and Catherine Bonharme in December of 1910.[1]

He married Anastasie Aspasie Trahan in 1829.[2]

An online history of Jefferson County, Texas notes that many of the founding families of the Taylor Bayou Settlement were Catholic, even though at first they had no parish or priest. These were the Hillebrandts, Broussards, Galliers, Hargraves, and Heberts.

The 1860 Census for Jefferson, TX, manages to bungle nearly every name:

Edgar Hairgrove 19,
Catherine Hairgrove 18,

He had a commanding role for the Confederacy with a militia of 62 men, as related in the "Story of Beaumont," excerpted in an online Jefferson County history.[5]

He died in 1894. [citation needed]

Research Notes

Please note that he had a cousin with the same name baptized the same day. The other George is George Hargrave and he was also born in December of 1810. To make matters worse, they both had a son baptized Joseph Valentine. This George's son is Valentine Hargrave.

The link below shows that [Harrington-7175] and [Hargraves-173] were married also. I am finding other names that match up to relatives of this account. Looks like a nightmare to me.

Trees are FamilySearch are often riddled with errors and duplications. Unless they have better documentation than what you see here, I would take it with a grain of salt.
