Biography

Services for Carter James Harlan, 73, were held at his home near Loving conducted by Rev. J.H. Walker, pastor of the Loving Methodist Church. Harlan died at the family farm four miles north of Loving, Texas.

Carter Jess Harlan was a pioneer rancher and farmer. He moved to Young County in 1905. He moved to Texas in 1886.

Carter Jess Harlan married Miss Ettie Saxon in 1884. Fourteen children were born to this union. Children preceding him in death include: Avery Harlan, Homer Hays Harlan, Nettie May Harlan, Eliza Harlan, John Edward Harlan.

Survived by his wife; four sons - Nathan Crismon Harlan, Mack Browning Harlan, Jesse James Harlan and Reese Henry Harlan; four daughters - Mrs. Alice Lattimore Jennings, Mrs. Mary Ella Morgan; Mrs. Blanch Ruth Howard, Miss Myrtie Hazel Harlan.
