He was a widower at the time of his wedding to Ann. Early in life he was a carriage and coach builder and because of this skill, entered the employ of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad to supervise the construction of water tanks. He rose to Division Superintendent, his division being from Martinsburg, West Virginia, to

Sandy Hook, Maryland. While holding this position he lived at Martinsburg, West Virginia, and after retirement moved to Dufiields. He died September 8, 1907, and Ann died June 16, 1894, at Duffields. Both are buried at Green Hill Cemetery at Martinsburg, West Virginia.
