  • OBITUARY

MR. AMOS HARMAN. Brief reference was made in these columns on Friday last to the passing of Mr. Amos Harman, a very old resident, that day. The late Mr. Harman, who was approaching his 85th birthday, was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Walter Harman and was born at 'Oswald,' Lower Hunter. He came to the Scone district as a youth, and at the age of 18 years he married Miss Caroline Burriss, of Parkville, where he settled down, and where he resided for practically the rest of his life. He was a very expert farmer, having been well schooled in thorough methods by his father during boyhood, and he brought to his task a clear head and more than average ability. Throughout his long residence in the district, the late Mr Harman earned for himself the good will of all with whom he came in contact His word was his bond, and although reserved by nature, he was, nevertheless, always a pleasant man to meet, and one whose courtesy was unfailing. He was a very old member of the Scone Masonic Lodge, in which he was elected a life member by the unanimous vote of the brethren some few years ago The late Mr. Harman is survived by a family of two sons and five daughters, namely: Messrs. Oswald (Sydney) and A. J. H. Harman (Muswellbrook), Mesdames George ChalIis, D. Mcllroy, M. Taylor (Parkville), Jim Challis, and J. Greaves (Scone). His wife died about seven years ago A memorial service was held on Saturday afternoon at St. Luke's Church of England, conducted by Canon B. C. Wilson, M.A., who, during his address, spoke in the highest terms of the late Mr. Harman, saying that throughout a long and useful life he had ever preserved a high standard of conduct and a high standard of citizenship. Later intermentwas made at the Scone cemetery in the presence of a very large gathering, Canon Wilson again conducting the Church service, and this was followed by a Masonic service, in which the Worshipful Master and Brethren of Lodge Scone took part. The pall-bearers were members from the Masonic Lodge. They were: Wor. Bro. Wharton, Bros- H. Mathews, H. G. Avard, W. Towns, C. W. Murray, J. G. Johnston.
