Research Notes

Elizabeth is omitted from the original list of children of Samuel and Mercy (Simpson) Harmon.[3] but includes her in the detailed list of the children and their families on page 15. Artemus Harmon [1] incorrectly reported that Jerusha married Rufus Merrill. Thurston[2], correctly reports that Jerusha Milliken married Levi Merril. One of their sons was Rufus.[4]

Samuel Harmon and Nathaniel Harmon were both sons of John Harmon and Sarah Roberts. It would seem that each of these sons had a daughter named Elizabeth. There is uncertainty as to which Elizabeth married Edward Milliken and which Elizabeth married Samuel Brian or Bryant.

The Elizabeth Harmon who died 12 March 1806 was married to Edward Milliken, i.e. . . .

In "The Harmon Genealogy" it is indicated in one part of this book that Elizabeth Harmon (b. 1728) is the daughter of Samuel, son of John Harmon, i.e. . . . Elizabeth Harmon (Samuel, John). b. 1728, in Scarboro, m. May 23, 1754, Lieut. Edward Milliken, son of Edward and Abigail (Norman) Milliken, of Scarboro. . . .

HOWEVER . . . in the section specific to Samuel Harmon (b. 1686), son of John, Sam's descendants do NOT include a daughter by the name of Elizabeth . . . and the section on Sam's brother, Nathaniel Harmon (b. 1702-3), [the same Nathaniel mentioned in The ancestry of Lydia Harmon] indicates that he DOES have a daughter named Elizabeth, bp. May 16, 1736, m. Dec. 14, 1758, Samuel D. Brian. . . .

HOWEVER . . . according to "The Ancestry of Lydia Harmon" . . . the Elizabeth who married Edward Milliken is the daughter of Nathaniel Harmon, i.e. . . . CAPT. NATHANIEL HARMON (son of John) was born in Wells February 1, 1702/3. He married Hannah, daughter of Zachariah and Elizabeth (Cousins) Goodale November 30, 1727. . . . [daughter] ELIZABETH, bapt. May 16, 1736; m. Edward Milliken May 23, 1754. He was a son of Edward and Abigail (Norman) Milliken, and was born March 5, 1733/4. Ten children. . . .

ALSO . . . multiple SAR applications dating from 1908 to 1970 list the Elizabeth Harmon who was born 1736 and died 1806 as the wife of Edward Milliken . . .

ALSO . . . the transcription by Eleda Cote for the Milliken Cemetery in Buxton lists the following . . . MILLIKEN, Betsey c. 1734 - Mar 12, 1806, Aged 72, Wife of Edward Milliken . . .
