HARNEY, JOHN M (1912-1993), of Ballinasloe, Galway, Ireland. He married Julia McManus (1919-2011).
John was a retired male nurse at St. Bridgid's Hospital, Ballinasloe. He was fourth son of Thomas Harney and Mary (Dolan) of Curraghaleen, Drum.
He married Julia McManus, and they had five sons and one daughter. John's brothers and sisters were: Patrick; Thomas; James, of Creagh; Michael, a lawyer in Boston, Massachusetts; Kathleen "Cissie: (Mrs. P.) Higgins of Curryroe, Drum; and Mary 'Mae' (Sister Tutor), of Kings College Hospital, London.
John took a keen interest in farming and was always eager to learn of modern methods and techniques in the husbandry of farm crops and livestock. In many farming organizations he was a pivotal figure such as the Agricultural Show, the Livestock Mart Committee, and the Irish Framers Association, all of which he was actively associated with for many years.
John was a man possessed with many sterling qualities, a good friend, and willing neighbour. He was always ready to extend the hand of friendship to those in need. Interment took place at Creagh Cemetery.
