Biography

Desmond Edward St. Aubyn Harney, the son of Edward "Ned" Harney and his second wife, Kathleen Anderson.
On 1 May 1929, when young Desmond was only three months old, his father, Edward "Ned" Harney, died of pneumonia in the middle of a General Election, at South Shields, Durham, England.
Desmond was elected Mayor of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, 1993. He was also on the Town Planning Council; Consultant on the Middle East, primarily Iran; and as Director on the board of two banks in the City of London.
The attached photo of Desmond Harney was taken in Nov 1996, Canberra, Australia, where he visited with Dora Harney Maguire, a Harney descendant and genealogist.
Desmond E Harney married Judith (Downing) and they had three children.
